Northgate Win 2007 County Championships

Speedo Final - Northgate’s Fine Victory

We all thought that round 2 was an exciting night but this final topped the lot. It was edge of the seat stuff from start to finish with every single swimmer doing their absolute best.
At the end of the first 10 events, out of the evenings 50, Northgate had edged into the lead with 43 points to Ludlow’s 40 and Solihull & Droitwitch in equal 3rd place. By the halfway mark we had increased our lead to 113 points to Ludlow’s 94 and third place had now gone to Leek.
The second half of the evening was incredibly tense as we saw Northgate’s lead slowly diminish as Ludlow began to push in an effort to take our lead. Gradually they crept back towards us and by event 48 they were just 1 point behind with 2 races left.
Northgate’s fight did not give an inch as the ladies open relay team finished in a strong 2nd place with Ludlow back in 6th (later disqualified). The mens team then again pipped Ludlow to give us the victory and winners trophy.
It would be difficult to single out any individual performance and it would be most fair to say the whole team did so well and deserved this win so much with all the effort that was put in.
We can all now look forward to an exciting season next year when Northgate compete in Division One.
Congratulations to everyone.

Speedo League Round 2

Northgate went into this second round gala with confidence following an excellent result in round 1. We began with a great win in the first race when Stefanie won the Open IM. The results after the first 10 events out of the 50 put Northgate in equal top spot with Solihull A and Wyre Forest in 3rd place.
By the halfway mark Northgate had pulled out a lead with 117 points to Solihull’s 112 and Wyre Forest still in 3rd place on 98 points.
The second half of the night was full of nail biting moments as we swapped places at the top with Solihull A on several occasions. However, Northgate’s tremendous team spirit shone through to bring us victory on the night with 209 points, with Solihull A and Wyre Forest tying for 2nd place.
It was such an exciting gala to watch and a very big “WELL DONE” to all the swimmers!! Let’s not forget the tremendous work put in by D and his pool side team that was essential in achieving tonight’s result.

Black Country Junior Open 4th November

Only two members of the club were present at this open meeting, Jess and Chrissy Jones.
Jess started off well setting a PB in the 100 IM. She went on to swim well in the 50 free style and 50 Breast stroke.
Chrissy’s continued good form gave her a PB in the 50 free heats and she lowered the time again when she won the final. With a second place in the 100IM and also a PB she then went on to win the 50 breast again breaking her PB in the heats. It was the 3rd place in the fly that saw her biggest improvement though. She lowered her previous best of 46.10 down to 44.18 in the heats then to 41.09 in the final.

Outstanding performances brought us 5 championship records out of the total 11 records recorded on the day. No other club scored more than 2 records.

The record breaking performances were:-

                                       9yrs 4x1 Medley

Bryan & Knott Trophy Gala - 14/07/07

The gala this year consisted of only 3 scoring teams following the late withdrawal of Shrewsbury SC. Northgate filled the vacant lane with a non-scoring team to give extra gala experience.
The team from Bilston proved to be formidable with a total of some 30 first places out of the 42 events.
The Northgate team however put in some excellent performances to come in second with wins in the following:-

Girls       14/u 50m Breast stroke
Girls       Open 50m Breast stroke
Girls & Boys 14/u 50 Free style
Girls & Boys 14/u Medley Relay
Boys       10/u 50 Free style

The final 2 races of the evening, the girls & boys 8X cannon events, were both really exciting. Firstly the girls, showing their huge strength, made a very convincing win and, more significantly, the non-scoring team also finished ahead of both Bilston and Wolverhampton.
The boys event was much more closely fought but Northgate came out victors in this race also.

Congratulations to all who swam and a special well done to those organising and officiating as the evening passed by like clockwork without any obvious hitch or delay.
